PROJECT: Colour changing LED luminaire
CLIENT: Wm Morrison Plc
DESIGNER: Alan Eden, Michael Hallawell & Associates
In association with the architects, Chelsom designed and manufactured a bespoke colour changing LED luminaire which drops down the central light well through the entire building of the Wm Morrison PLC HQ building in Bradford.
The overall height of the fitting is 12500mm with a diameter of 1200mm. Comprising 72 bespoke modules each fitted with 30 LEDs and 3 colour change units which are driven from an in-house designed controller that repeats the sequence on the panel. The colour sequence can be re-programmed to create numerous variations of ambience.
LED technology was selected as the client was concerned about access to the fitting for maintenance and also energy consumption. LED requires minimal maintenance as lamp life is so long, and power consumption is low. Also the architect wanted to achieve the impact of constant colour change.
